The Future of Clinical Trial Data Sharing: Re-use, Reproducibility and Impact

The SHARE-CTD consortium invites researchers, policy-makers, regulators, funders, journal editors, infrastructure leaders, industry representatives, and patient advocates to join its final conference: The Future of Clinical Trial Data Sharing – SHARE-CTD Final Conference on Re-Use, Reproducibility and Impact.

Over two days, the conference will explore how clinical trial data sharing can move beyond aspiration and become an integral part of a trustworthy, reproducible, and impactful research ecosystem. Bringing together leading experts from across Europe and beyond, the event will showcase key findings from the SHARE-CTD project and provide a platform for discussing future directions for clinical trial data sharing policy, practice, and infrastructure.

SHARE-CTD was established to advance best practices in clinical trial data sharing and re-use, strengthen transparency and reproducibility, and generate evidence on the impact of data-sharing policies and infrastructures. Its work spans governance and regulation, FAIR data and metadata standards, privacy protection, responsible access, reproducible research workflows, secondary data use, patient engagement, and the evaluation of scientific and societal impact.

The conference programme is organised around two central themes:

Day 1: Enabling Clinical Trial Data Sharing
The first day focuses on the foundations of effective clinical trial data sharing, including data stewardship, FAIRification, anonymisation, governance, regulation, and the infrastructures needed to support secure and responsible data access and re-use.

Day 2: From Shared Data to Better Evidence and Better Outcomes
The second day explores how shared clinical trial data can improve reproducibility, strengthen evidence generation, support methodological innovation, enhance patient outcomes, and create scientific and societal impact.

Key questions addressed throughout the conference include:

How can clinical trial data sharing become more feasible, trusted, and sustainable?
What governance, access, and incentive models can support responsible data sharing and re-use?
How can re-analysis and secondary use of clinical trial data strengthen reproducibility and research integrity?
How can shared data be translated into better evidence and improved patient outcomes?
What role do patients, regulators, funders, journals, and industry stakeholders play in fostering a culture of data sharing?
How should future European and international policy frameworks for clinical trial data sharing evolve?

We welcome contributions related to:

Clinical trial data sharing policies, governance, and regulation
FAIR data, metadata standards, privacy protection, and responsible access
Data sharing infrastructures, platforms, and interoperability
Reproducibility, re-analysis, validation, and research integrity
Secondary analysis and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis
Methods for evidence synthesis and the use of historical clinical trial data
Journal, funder, regulatory, and institutional policies
Patient engagement, trust, consent, and societal perspectives
Incentives, standards, recognition, and capacity building for responsible data sharing
Measuring the scientific, clinical, policy, and societal impact of data sharing

The conference aims not only to disseminate the results of SHARE-CTD, but also to contribute to the development of future strategies, policies, and practices that maximise the value of clinical trial data for science, healthcare, and society.
